‘어떻게 살 것인가’, ‘나는 누구인가’에 대한 사유는 살아가면서 갖춰야 할 중요한 삶의 자세 중 하나이다. 그 사유는 필히 내면의 탐구를 통해서 이루어지며 그 내면으로 들어가기 위해서는 자발적 침묵과 고독의 시간이 필요한데 여기서 말하는 자발적 고독은 홀로 있는 상황만을 이야기하는 것이 아닌 지나간 마음의 짐을 아직도 짊어지고 있지 않는 것, 어제의 것을 오늘로 갖고 오지 않는 것과 같이 고요한 마음의 상태를 뜻하기도 한다. 하지만 현대의 사람들은 그런 고요한 마음을 일상 속에서 실천하기 어려운 것이 사실이다.

따라서 작가는 그림 속에서 느낄 수 있는 고요함을 통해 사람들에게 마음의 짐을 잠시 내려놓고 스스로 내면의 여정을 떠날 수 있는 발판을 마련해 주고자 한다. 겨울의 자연에서 느낄 수 있는 완전한 혼자만의 고요함, 광활한 자연을 향해 걸어가는 한 사람의 뒷모습에서 느낄 수 있는 강인한 묵묵함은 자신을 알아가기 위한 사람들의 여정 속 고독의 동지가 되어준다. 

The contemplation of "how to live" and "who I am" is one of the important attitudes towards life that one must cultivate as they journey through life. This contemplation necessarily occurs through inner exploration, and to delve into that inner realm, one requires moments of voluntary silence and solitude. Here, voluntary solitude doesn't merely refer to being physically alone, but rather to a state of tranquility where one is not burdened by the weight of past emotions and does not carry yesterday's concerns into today. However, it is a reality that modern individuals find it challenging to practice such inner tranquility in their daily lives. Therefore, the author seeks to provide people with a stepping stone to embark on their inner journey by allowing them to briefly set aside the burdens of their hearts and find solace in the tranquility that can be felt within the silence depicted in the painting. The profound solitude of winter's nature, the resolute silence felt in the solitary figure walking towards the vast wilderness, all become companions of solitude within the journey of self-discovery for those seeking to understand themselves.
